Where Po.Li.Te Stands Today

Po.Li.Te is a modular multiphysics platform for VCSELs and semiconductor devices, built one validated physics module at a time. The application matrix shows which device families each module covers. Here is exactly what is ready to license today, what we are actively building next, and what you can already do with the current release.

Module Status

✓ Available now

Optical Solver

Full-vector 3D modal analysis is validated and ready for production use, on standard desktop hardware.

✓ Available now

Thermal Solver

FEM-based heat modeling is validated and fully coupled to the optical solver for realistic performance prediction.

✓ Available now

Transport (Drift-Diffusion) Solver

Carrier transport modeling is validated on photodetectors and power semiconductor devices (CMOS, diodes). VCSEL-specific transport coupling is in active development.

What You Can Already Do

The Optical, Thermal and Transport modules are validated and available for licensing today. Combined, they already let R&D teams:

  • Predict emission wavelength, threshold gain and transverse mode behavior for a new VCSEL design before committing to fabrication
  • Analyze polarization properties and mode competition across complex or non-cylindrical apertures, including surface-patterned designs
  • Simulate near-field and far-field beam distributions to evaluate optical coupling and beam quality
  • Model self-heating, thermal lensing and temperature-induced index changes to predict safe operating current and reliability
  • Compare multiple geometries and design variants in minutes, instead of committing to another wafer iteration
  • Model carrier transport in photodetectors and power semiconductor devices (CMOS, diodes) to predict electrical characteristics before fabrication

What’s Next: VCSEL Transport Coupling, Grating Module and EM Solvers

Our drift-diffusion transport solver, built on the same NEGF-drift-diffusion approach behind our own published research on tunnel-junction VCSELs, is already validated on photodetectors and power semiconductor devices. We are now extending it to couple with the optical and thermal solvers for a fully predictive VCSEL transport picture. A dedicated grating module for structured-aperture designs is also in the pipeline. In parallel, the electromagnetic solvers we develop in house, FDTD among them, are being prepared for integration into the platform: today they are available only through custom engineering projects.
